The ancient martial art of Silambam continues to shine as the Virudhunagar District Silambam Association achieves a groundbreaking feat. With over 500 participants performing continuously for 60 minutes across 21 rounds, this remarkable display has been officially recognized as a Nova World Record under Record No.: NWR-2025-1170, dated March 02, 2025.

About Virudhunagar District Silambam Association

Virudhunagar District Silambam Association is a renowned organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional martial art of Silambam. They have consistently organized events to encourage young practitioners and keep this ancient tradition alive.

Silambam, one of the oldest martial arts in the world, originates from Tamil Nadu. It is not only a self-defense art but also a reflection of the rich cultural heritage of the region.

  • Tamil Nadu Traditional Arts Training Foundation – Kunnur – 53 Participants
  • Tamilan Silamba Kalai Koodam – 115 Participants
  • Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Silambam – 14 Participants

Record-Breaking Performance

The participants demonstrated outstanding endurance and skill by performing continuously for 60 minutes across 21 intense rounds, creating a new world record.

Challenges Faced by Participants

Maintaining focus and stamina for an entire hour proved to be the biggest challenge. However, the participants’ dedication and rigorous training paid off.
